One Tama (One Right Action) “Young Filipinos taking action together”

Started as a collaboration between Duyan ng Giting (Cradle of Valor) and Idea!s Creative, two Filipino youth-led organizations, One Tama challenges youth in the Philippines to take on challenges of positive action — then sharing that action with as many people as possible, thus aiming for the biggest impact possible. We launched this in P&G and the results have been phenomenal. We have groups who started fund raising for their cause. We had collaboration happen across different group interests. Kudos to One tama!

What sets One Tama apart is it actually gets people moving. By suggesting concrete ways we could become better people (and help make the world a better place) and encouraging us to commit to action through a to-do list of good deeds (which translates to action NOW as we strive to get tasks “done” in our trackboards), One Tama effectively moves us from simply feeling the need to do something to actually doing something. We’ve found that the availability of a venue to propose actions that other people can do also propels us to think harder and more frequently of other things we ourselves should do as responsible members of society.

One Tama is a great idea to bring social actions in a new light. Simple acts done together bring about transformation in a big way. One Tama is also participating in Green ReLeaf Project, a youth initiated project to promote green, sustainable, and conscious emergency relief for typhoon survivors in the Philippines. Yay for One Tama!

"Everything we do is just a drop in the ocean but if we don't do it the drop will be missing forever." Mother Teresa

Though it's like a drop, One Tama is doing their part so the drop will be there forever....

        Go go go One Tama!

it's great that someone's actually making things happen. most of the time, people just dream of a better world and plan on helping it rise but never actually gets to work... One Tama did just the thing to be the change and inspire lives. ILOVEITT.

From Juan Tamad to Juan "Tama", we Filipinos can make our country a better place to live in, one very subtle but very revolutionizing act at a time. :] make your pledge now.

I am a sixth grade teacher from the Multiple Intelligence International School, where children are encouraged to use their intelligences to make a difference. Last quarter, we partnered with One Tama for our project. After learning about how Filipinos cherish freedom and are willing to risk their lives for freedom, the sixth grade students decided to do something to help change the country. We invited One Tama to conduct a talk. The talk made the children aware that through their small actions, they can make a difference. After the talk, the class came up with a list of actions that they committed to. These ranged from unplugging appliances when not in use, to using money wisely, and even to practicing the 3Rs. The children were given 3 weeks to practice these actions and at the end of these three weeks, the children handed in a scrapbook of their acts for change -- a compilation of the right acts that they did. It was encouraging to see the children not only do the actions because it was a required project, but to actually read their reflections and see that they learned a lot because of this project. During the Portfolio Night, in front of their parents and friends, the children proudly declared their promises to act for change. Indeed, actions speak louder when shared.

I think this is an awesome initiative. Not only does it create a national psychology of a can-do attitude; it marries it with actual on-the-ground let's-just-get-started-and-moving-no-matter-how-small pragmatism - and best of all done through a medium and platform of the new generation. bubble all this up and this has the opportunity to rewrite cultural hardwiring with the youth.

I can see OneTama resonating beyond cultural boundaries. While indeed leveraging the Filipino association to their cause is clever, I find that OneTama also offers a unique tool for anyone to access ideas for positive change in themselves. Best of all that they advocate a strategy of focus and dedication by doing one thing constantly is not only efficient but certainly good advice for anyone with good intentions. OneTama is valuable as an attitude towards living - sounds good as a mantra too. They've become one of our favorite Dialogues leaders at Starbucks and we feel honored to have participated in welcoming their cause to our community.

The idea is simple but potent. The more Filipinos, and people in general, we involve in this campaign, the greater the impact we deliver. We are reminded it's not about a single leader or event--it's about us the people. This campaign is something I can proudly and enthusiastically share with my countrymen.

This is a great initiative by the Filipino for the Filipino people. Hopefully the image of the Philippines will change through this efforts. Our country have many beautiful things to be proud of and this is one way of showing it to the world! We are not left behind!

One Tama is a great way to get the Filipino youth participate in activities which in turn contribute to something positive for the country. By making the youth aware of what they can do, One Tama is also giving the youth opportunities to become active citizens, and jumpstart them towards development-oriented activities.

Great idea and a very necessary one at this time for the Philippine youth especially with all the calamities that have befallen the country and the upcoming national elections in 2010.

This is a wonderful collaboration. I like the idea of striving for positive actions by starting with simple ideas that make significant contributions to the community and beyond that.
